Gault&Millau's review 2026

This kafana is a true representative of the old school. When your soul craves grilled meat Sokoj is the right place. With an extensive menu, you definitely have to ask the waiter for specialties that are not on the menu. Mangulica cutlet, pink, juicy, moderately fatty, perfectly smoked on the grill, pieces of meat that melt in your mouth. An almost forgotten side dish, fried potatoes with onions, tastes like at grandma’s. The star is the hunter’s sausage, a blend of rabbit, wild boar, and venison, with an unexpectedly mild taste and fine texture. Pure protein that is extremely easy to digest and does not weigh heavily on the stomach, unless you eat the sausage with crispy burek-dough - Belgrade kafanas are currently competing who will make it crispier and tastier. In that case, we recommend that you balance the meal with an excellent, real homemade pickle or sauerkraut. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from an old kafana, with the feeling that you’ve come to a place that’s been around for decades and doesn’t change without a reason. Finish with a slice of Reforma cake, rich with walnuts and chocolate, standing just long enough for the layers to soften perfectly.
