Gault&Millau's review 2026

Restaurant Azbuka is in the central part of the village complex of the same name. The restaurant itself has a garden with a wonderful view, and a bright and spacious interior. The menu, called the Culinary Alphabet opens with the obligatory aunt’s pie under the sač. Preparation takes about half an hour, but every minute of waiting is worth it when it arrives warm and fragrant on a wooden board. Appetizers include fritters with kajmak, and an interesting sarmica made of lamb meat in crépine, baked as a roll. The bread, also born from the embers of the sač, provides the perfect vessel for seasonal salads. For the main course, ask what’s under the sač because kid and lamb are not on constant offer, and the veal with potatoes is tender and juicy, while the slow-roasted glazed pork ribs on kajmak offer a rich, modern indulgence. Whether you choose the iconic Karađorđe steak or a robust steak in oil, every bite is a lesson in tradition. Pair your meal with an artisanal rakija and conclude with a light Tres Leches cake or a slice of homemade sour cherry pie to complete this quintessential Serbian experience.
