Madera is an iconic Belgrade kafana, a legendary site whose spirit has been shaped by the city’s cultural greats. The professional staff maintains this legacy with dignity and pride. Any true kafana is judged first by its bread, and the warm cornbread and crispy loaves here are exceptional. A unique highlight is the steak on burek-dough, a brilliant deconstruction where seasoned beef is served on crispy pastry with sour cream and a touch of jam to balance the richness. As a landmark establishment, it also serves iconic dishes like duck on a rustic pea and potato purée, topped with duck cracklings, a dish so satisfying it could be enjoyed every day. Per the server’s recommendation, the gratinated strawberries with sweet cream and freshly prepared caramel provide a light and elegant finish to the meal. The extensive selection of wine and rakija ensures a complete experience. There is no doubt that Madera will remain a cornerstone of Belgrade’s culinary identity for a long time.
