Gault&Millau's review 2026

At the verdant feet of the Venčac and Bukulja mountains, Tarpoš Winery welcomes guests into a landscape of rolling vineyards and refined hospitality. Its name pays homage to the tarpoš - a traditional cap once used to offer fresh grapes to weary travelers-a symbol of generosity that lives on in the winery’s modern soul. The architecture seamlessly blends heritage with contemporary design, featuring an elegant hall and a sweeping terrace that forks toward the horizon. Here, wine is treated not merely as a pour, but as the centerpiece of a curated sensory journey. The menu is a thoughtful dialogue between vine and plate. Start with the airy horseradish soufflé or the smoky sweetness of barded plums. For the main course, the grilled sweetbreads offer a sublime contrast of crispy edges and a tender core, brightened by pickled onions and grilled vegetables, while the steak - precisely seared and remarkably juicy - is a masterclass in simplicity, together with French fries. Finally, the chocolate mousse reveals its layers like a fine vintage: a light chocolate base, hazelnut cream and a smooth caramel glaze create a harmony of flavors and textures. At Tarpoš, every pairing is a story designed to be remembered.
