Gault&Millau's review 2026

Perched on the scenic route to Zavojno Lake, Vitina iža - or ‘Vita’s House’- is an impressive stone-built sanctuary offering panoramic views of Pirot. The spacious covered summer garden is ideal for any time of the day and evening in the summer season, while the interior is rustically decorated. The wine list, oriented towards Serbian wines, harmoniously follows the local menu, and there is also a good selection of rakija to whet the appetite, of course with flattened sausage and strained yoghurt and the essential trljanica with sheep’s cheese. No meal here is complete without their ‘magical’ bećarac and warm, oil-drenched buns dusted with crushed pepper. In the winter period, pork aspic, ajvar and sauerkraut, in the summer Moravian salad, and the obligatory đubek as a warm appetizer. Furthermore, you won’t go wrong choosing anything from the main part of the menu - from the grill, pljeskavica and pork tenderloin, to uštipak, ćevapi and sausages, and be sure to ask what is simmering under the sač. They are known for their great veal tails and soft beef tenderloin in kajmak. The option to order half-portions allows for a true tasting experience, perfectly capped off by Vita’s Cream - a decadent blend of two chocolates and sour cherry.
